As the seasons begin to change, we hear birds happily conversing early in the morning, we see the tree buds soaking in the light as they open, and we feel the warm rays of the bright sun on our faces. Everything is beginning to grow, everything is ready for new life.
The cold days are slowly being tucked away into the previous chapter of winter. We might begin to feel nostalgic of our childhood days where we would run outside, our bare feet touching the still cold grounds, but we didn’t care. The sun is out and so are we. We might remember the smell of fresh air hitting our faces as we are chasing each other or the sound of the swings creaking as we are imagining ourselves flying in the air. We might remember the joy we felt of just simply being outside, out of the prison of the stuffy house and the stiff winter jackets. Everything is now fresh, everything is new.
These days are looking forward by everyone – young, old, short, tall, wealthy, poor. No matter who you are, you know you love the changing weather.
But why? Why should we care how the weather is? It’s the same thing every year anyway, it’s not that surprising. There’s Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. Why are we so excited for the warmer months, the fresher days?
Because we were designed for NEW LIFE. Even though this is a physical experience, it is evident that we, who all are made in God’s image, are designed to want a new life.
You want to have that innocence back that you had when you were a child. You want to worry about nothing, experience no loss, feel no pain. You want your innocence back.
That’s why in the physical we so look forward to Spring – because we can for a tiny moment, as the season warms and begin to change, experience this innocence every year. The happy birds in the air, the blooming flowers, the clear blue skies, on and on – we remember these days as part of our innocent childhood. But the seasons continue to change – it becomes too hot, then too cold. Yet for this short Spring moment that we are experiencing now, we can feel that sense of innocence.
But you know? We weren’t designed to just live like this one time a year, year after year. We weren’t designed to long after something in our past because it is gone. We have had this innocence in us all along. Even before you were a child. It never left you and never will. You have NEW LIFE in you in every season.
The weather never changes in you.
The gloomy seasons shouldn’t bring us down. If we are in hardship, you know what God says? REJOICE! (Romans 5:3) Because no matter what, you still have that new life in you! And that new life is a daily thing – not a circumstance thing!
In Romans 6:4, Paul explains to us that we should walk in the NEWNESS of life. He didn’t say you should feel it and it will happen. Or wait until good things happen in our life and then be happy. No, he said that we died with Jesus, resurrected with Him into New Life and that’s where we are always. Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall – through any season. You must WALK in it no matter what.
It’s kind of like taking a jog. You know you should put shoes on, but you say to yourself – “Eh, I’ll put it on when I stub my toe or step on something sharp.” Kind of sounds ridiculous. But you know, that’s kind of like what we do with God. His Life is in you, but you just YOLO and live as you want and think “I’ll use this God thing when I’m in trouble – He’ll save me anyway”. Why not just put on your shoes that you’ve had all along and not even worry about getting in trouble?
In Him there is safety, rest, peace, comfort, joy. The weapons that were formed against us won’t touch us because that is our inheritance – God’s promise to His people (Isaiah 54:17). His presence will go with you and He will give you rest. (Exodus 33:14). He refreshes your soul (Psalm 23:3) – which means we don’t need to wait for that fresh air! You will be far from oppression and fear (Isaiah 54:14). The past is GONE (2Cor 5:17). Take this new LIFE – you need it!\
So don’t wait for the sunshine – be the LIGHT!
You are NEW! Every second.
You were crucified with Jesus, died, and resurrected with Him to a new life. Let that LIFE spring in and through you! It sounds cliché to you, but it must become such a part of you that it’s easy to do. Without thinking – it’s who you are.
Stop waiting for Spring to come around to experience a tiny glimpse of happiness. You can be happy all the time. It’s in you. Don’t let your circumstances, the weather, the season, the good times, the bad times, define you. You’re far from it. You were made perfect – in His image. You are I AM. You are constant, stable, established, grounded, rooted. There is no such thing as climate change in this New Life.
So, let’s enjoy this tiny moment of great weather, but also let’s enjoy the “great weather” of NEW LIFE inside of us every single day.
Here are some verses you can meditate every day to grasp this New Life (“thou” is replaced with “I” to make it personal – it’s about you anyway!).
“In righteousness shall I be established: I shall be far from oppression; for I shall not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near me.” Isa 54:14
“Therefore if I am in Christ, I am a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Cor 5:17
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” Gal 2:20
“No weapon that is formed against me shall prosper; and every tongue that shal rise against me in judgment I shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and my righteousness if is of Him..” Isa 54:17
“..I glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation works patience, and patience, experience, and experience, hope: and hope makes not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Rom 5:3-5
